About scam messages
Scam messages abound - be vigilant and avoid being scammed
A large number of scam attempts are being made to lure users to web pages that resemble those of Matkahuolto and persuade them to disclose their online banking credentials or charge card details. If you receive this type of suspicious messages, do not under any circumstances click any links or attachments, nor provide any information or make any payments through these sites. Matkahuolto never transmits payments or acts as a payment gateway.
Scam messages have appeared in connection with activities related peer-to-peer trading platforms and in the form of text and email messages. Also, fake social media profiles are being used increasingly for phising information. On spoofed social profiles, the most common scam is a lottery where you have to enter your card details to claim a prize. Matkahuolto never holds this type of lotteries.
See the bottom of the page to see examples of various scam messages sent in Matkahuolto’s name. You can always check the authenticity of a message and the actual status of your parcel on the Matkahuolto website or the Parcels app by contacting our customer service.
This ensures that your details are secure and you won’t end up paying money to scammers:
If you receive a text message or email that raises any doubts about its content, do not click any links or attachments in the message.
If you happen to click a link by accident, do not under any circumstances make any payments or provide any debit or credit card details, online banking credentials, usernames and passwords or any other information.
If you have already clicked on the link and provided your credit card or online banking details, contact your bank right away and then report the crime to the police.
Even if the link appeared to direct you to a trusted site, check the address of the page in your browser. The name of the link may be completely different from the address it takes you to.
Even the name of the sender may appear to be Matkahuolto although this is not the case (e.g. the lowercase ‘L’ in the name may have been replaced by a capital ‘I’, or the name may include a minor small spelling mistake such as ‘Maktahuolto’).
You may receive a message from us if the recipient fails to claim the parcel your sent. If so, we will ask you to pay the cost of return or to give us permission to recycle the contents of the parcel. If you want us to return your parcel, you can easily verify the authenticity of the payment link you received by entering the tracking number in the shipment tracker, either on our website or in the Parcels app.
The order confirmations and arrival notices sent by Matkahuolto via SMS and e-mail always indicate Matkahuolto as the sender and include the shipment ID, which can be used to check the details of the shipment, such as any additional charges, on our website.
We monitor scamming and are in frequent contact with the authorities in order to avert the worst consequences of scamming.
